22 May 2017 This Tool Could Save You From Paying WannaCry Ransomware Crooks
The worldwide cyber attack ‘WannaCry’ has already affected over 200,000 computers in more than 150 different countries. This piece of ransomware is easily installed on computers through a flaw in Microsoft software.
WannaCry infiltrates your system and holds your files hostage. Victims have to pay a ransom of $300 before the timer runs out to get their files back. If the payment is not completed in time, the files will be deleted.
Last week, researchers have come together to create a piece of software that can unlock files blocked by WannaCry called ‘WanaKiwi’. This program is installed via Github and needs to be installed in the same folder as the .pky file that WannaCry places on your computer. Don’t worry, because this can be installed automatically if you do not know how to install the software.
It is always better to back up your files rather than having to use WanaKiwi to get your files back, however if it comes to this, this is your best option!
